Episode 37: Presence

Hi everyone! I hope you’re having an excellent week so far. You can listen to the show by streaming it below or by subscribing to us on iTunes here!

Staying present in the moment is one of those things I think I’ll be struggling with my whole life, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great challenge to try and tackle! As Laura put it, “It’s a mountain with no top”. Isn’t that a beautiful idea?

That being said, there are still some resources that have been helpful to us along our journey to finding more presence in our lives and we talked about them on the show:

  • We both absolutely loved the Lululemon Give Presence campaign. You can watch their wonderful video and find some more great quotes about presence here.
  • Baron Baptiste says you are either now here or nowhere. Read more about this powerful idea here.
  • Marie Forleo is one of our spiritual mentors in life and career and her thoughts on presence are always so juicy. We loved this one about planning vs. worrying, and this one about fast-tracking the life you want.
  • There will probably never be a time when we don’t need to dot b (stop and breathe).
  • Leaving the church of self-improvement: an interesting perspective from Danielle Laporte.

How about you? Do you struggle with staying present, whether it’s in small ways like everyday conversations or in bigger ones like your current career? We’d love to hear what you think of the episode here in the comments below, or find us on Twitter or Instagram.

Thanks for listening!

Episode 25: Handling Post-Graduation Feelings

Hey everyone!

Today’s episode is all about dealing with the weird feelings that come up once you graduate university and head off into the “real world”. As always, you can listen to the show here or subscribe to us on iTunes.

One of our listeners Julia asked us to talk about the advice we would give ourselves for dealing with the emotional and professional pressures that arise after graduation. It’s a topic close to our hearts because…we’re in it! We are still very much still figuring out how to handle our feelings and deal with those pressures, but one year out we have learned a little so we’re happy to share.

This is a juicy episode, so make sure to tune in, but here are some of the resources mentioned in the podcast that have helped us:

  • The Defining Decade by Meg Jay is one of my favourite books on this subject – I think it’s a must-read for anyone struggling in this time after graduation. She offers such helpful perspectives and advice for 20-somethings. Her TED talk is great as well.
  • The Start-Up of You by Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha is a favourite of Laura’s – the concepts of ABZ planning and taking calculated risks have been really useful to both of us.
  • This episode of the TED Radio Hour on millennials being the next greatest generation is very inspiring.
  • We’ve both had awesome experiences learning HTML and other coding languages on CodeAcademy.
  • If you’re trying to figure out what your next career steps should be, The Daily Muse has a great Dream Job Brainstorming sheet. If you’re trying to figure out what you want out of life in general, try giving vision boarding a try! Here’s mine.
  • If you’re trying to make friends after graduation, Meetup.com is an awesome resource for meeting like-minded people.

If you’ve just graduated, congratulations! This is a scary time, but it’s such an exciting one too. You have possibilities and opportunities that you don’t even know about yet! Good luck.
